I've been to Savannah. It's gorgeous. Really gorgeous. Even the cemeteries are stunning. And in the corners of those cemeteries, behind all the amazing architecture and huge trees lining the streets, you can absolutely feel the history of the place breathing. It is in every cobblestone, every tradition, every neighborhood.
Green does that here, too. It starts with a mystery, but seething in the background is Savannah's history. The word "atmospheric" is tossed around too much in reviews, but it's apt here. There is a profound sense of place, and the characters are products of it. It's tense, it's surprising, and it's really well written. Fans of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil will find much to like here. ~ DanaPS - I liked this so much, I'm thinking of listening to the audio to see what it adds to the mood.
